Memorializing

My mother visited her family cemetery last week and left flowers on the graves of her many lost siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She has seen a lot of water pass under the bridge during her 66 years on this earth. She is young by contemporary standards but it must be hard to accept that when so many that you loved have come and gone.

My grandmother has been in the hospital for weeks now. She is an amazing force in our family and I pray that she will get through this and be able to return home to rule her roost in Winona. She is in her 80's and still drives and cooks and gardens. Her eyesight is better than it was 20 years ago since she had cataract surgery. I hope to be with her next week regardless of whether she is at home or still in the Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

In the meantime, it is memorial day. There is big birthday party for Linda on the James River...(they lucked out with this weather!) we are also expecting Richard, Kay and their son Charlie to arrive at our door any minute.

Presence

I wanted to start blogging last fall when it seemed there would be ample time, space and incentive... but it didn't happen. I was happy to see that the blog "Delicate Monster" took the reins and fought the good fight...and marches on...word after word after word....

Art doesn't make good politics though sometimes politics make good art. Its a sign of the times and a hard row to hoe either way. Now that I am home and the election is over I know it won't be any easier but at least there is a little less hype in the air. Word for word, stroke for stroke, art will be present, regardless.
